Quick Start Guide
Get your Umbrella warranty program live in four steps.
Quick Start Guide
When you first log into Umbrella, the Setup Tutorial card appears at the top of your dashboard. It tracks your progress through four steps to get your warranty program live.
Steps 3 and 4 unlock after you complete Step 2.
Step 1: Connect Your Shopify Store
Click Install on Platform in the Setup Tutorial. You will be redirected to Shopify to authorize the Umbrella app. Once authorized, your product catalog begins syncing automatically.
Step 2: Choose Your Subscription
Click the subscription step to open the billing plan selector. Choose a plan that fits your business and confirm the subscription through Shopify.
| Plan | Monthly Fee | Best For |
|---|---|---|
| Free | $0/mo | Getting started — 20% per warranty sale, $0.50/order shipping protection |
| Growth | $250/mo | Brands under $100k/mo — 7% fee, OEM suite, white-glove setup |
| Scale | $1,000/mo | Brands under $250k/mo — 4% fee, dedicated manager |
| Enterprise | Custom | Brands over $250k/mo — flat monthly rate, SLA guarantees |
For full plan details and feature comparison, see the Pricing page.
Step 3: Create Your First Warranty Plan
Click Create Plan in the Setup Tutorial, or go to Warranties → Create. Configure:
- Plan Name — e.g., “2-Year Extended Protection”
- Plan Type — Extended Warranty, OEM Warranty, or Shipping Protection
- Coverage Duration — e.g., 12, 24, or 36 months
- Price — Set manually or use AI pricing suggestions (Growth+)
- Product Eligibility — All products, specific collections, or individual products
For detailed setup instructions for each plan type, see Creating Warranty Plans.
Step 4: Enable App Embeds
Activate Umbrella’s Shopify theme extensions so the platform can display warranty widgets on your storefront. The Setup Tutorial provides one-click deep links for each extension.
Required extension:
- Global App Embed (required) — Core script that powers all Umbrella widgets. Toggle it on in the Shopify theme editor and click Save.
Optional extensions:
- Claims Portal — Customer-facing page for filing and tracking claims.
- Order Status Widget — Shows warranty details on the order confirmation page.
Verifying Your Setup
After completing all four steps:
- Visit a product page on your store
- Confirm the warranty widget appears below the product price
- Add a product with warranty to cart
- Complete a test checkout
- Check the Umbrella dashboard for the new policy
Troubleshooting
- Steps 3 and 4 show a lock icon — Complete Step 2 first. Selecting any plan (including Free) unlocks them.
- Products not syncing — Go to Settings → Integrations → Shopify and verify the connection. Ensure your store has published products. Try disconnecting and reconnecting.
- Warranty widget not showing on product pages — Verify the Global App Embed is enabled in the Shopify theme editor, and that the PDP Widget is turned on at Settings → Appearance → PDP Widget. Confirm your plan’s product eligibility includes the product. Clear your browser cache.
- Setup Tutorial shows incomplete after finishing all steps — Refresh the page. If a step still appears incomplete, verify: Shopify connection (Settings → Integrations), subscription (Settings → Billing), at least one plan (Warranties), and that you clicked a deep link in Step 4.
- Want to revisit the Setup Tutorial — Click the tutorial header to expand it. It remains accessible after completion.
