Creating a Shipping Protection Plan
Step-by-step guide to creating shipping protection plans that cover lost, damaged, or stolen shipments.
Creating a Shipping Protection Plan
Shipping protection plans cover lost, damaged, or stolen shipments. Unlike Extended and OEM warranties, shipping protection applies to the entire order rather than individual products.
When to Use Shipping Protection
- You want to offer package protection at checkout
- You experience a high volume of lost or damaged shipment claims
- You want to reduce support burden from shipping-related issues
Shipping Protection Configuration
After selecting Shipping Protection as the plan type:
Coverage Terms
Shipping protection uses a single term:
- Duration — Default is 15 days from shipment. This represents the claim filing window.
- Price — Flat dollar amount per order (e.g., $1.99, $2.99)
Coverage Options
Three shipping-specific toggles:
- Lost (default: on) — Packages lost in transit with no delivery confirmation
- Stolen (default: on) — Packages marked delivered but stolen before retrieval
- Damaged (default: on) — Products arriving with visible shipping damage
Product Eligibility
Typically set to All Products since shipping protection covers entire orders.
How Shipping Protection Appears to Customers
Shipping protection is offered at checkout (via Shopify Checkout Extensions) rather than on individual product pages. The customer sees a single checkbox or toggle to add shipping protection to their entire order.
Saving Your Plan
Click Create Warranty in the title bar or at the bottom of the form. The system validates all fields, creates the plan, and generates a corresponding Shopify product.
