Add the Policies Page to Customer Accounts
Step-by-step: add Umbrella's Policies Page to your customer account menu so customers can view their policies and file claims while signed in.
Add the Policies Page to customer accounts
The Policies Page gives your customers a single place, inside their Shopify customer account, to see every policy they have bought, check its status, and file a claim. It is installed with Umbrella, but Shopify does not add it to your store for you. It takes two saves in the Checkout & accounts editor, and most stores get stuck on the second one, so this guide walks through both.
Step 1: Add the Policies Page to the account menu
- In Shopify Admin, go to Settings → Checkout and select Customize to open the Checkout & accounts editor.
- Use the page picker at the top of the editor to switch to a customer accounts page, such as Orders.
- In the left sidebar, open the Main section and select Menu, then select Edit. The menu editor opens.
- Select Add menu item (the link picker), choose Apps, and pick Policies Page.
- Give the link a label your customers will recognise, such as My Policies or Protection Plans, then save the menu.
Step 2: Add the page to your store
Go back to the Checkout & accounts editor. Shopify now warns that the page is missing:
- Select Add page in that warning. The editor preview shows the Policies Page.
- Select Save in the top right.
That’s it. Sign in to your store as a customer with at least one Umbrella policy and open the new menu link. You should see their policies, and be able to open one and start a claim.
Getting the page’s URL
To link to the page from somewhere else, such as an email, a help article or your store’s footer, open the three-dot menu next to the page in the editor and select Copy URL. It looks like this:
https://shopify.com/<your shop ID>/account/pages/<page ID>
Customers who are not signed in are asked to sign in first, then taken to the page.
Step 3 (optional): Open policies from the order page
Umbrella’s Order Line Items block shows each covered product’s policy on the order status page, with View Policy and File a Claim buttons. By default those buttons open Umbrella’s public claim page in a new tab. Once the Policies Page is set up, you can send signed-in customers straight to the right policy in the Policies Page instead.
- In the Checkout & accounts editor, switch to the Order status page.
- Select the Order Line Items block from Umbrella.
- Turn on Link buttons to the Policies Page, then Save.
View Policy then opens that policy’s details, and File a Claim opens the claim form for it, both in the same tab.
Troubleshooting
“Failed to save” when saving the editor
Every time you save, Shopify re-checks the settings of every app block on your checkout and account pages, not only the one you changed. If any of them holds a value Shopify no longer accepts, the whole save fails with a vague “Failed to save”, even though the problem has nothing to do with the Policies Page.
A known cause is Umbrella’s Checkout Line Items block, if it was added to your checkout before January 2026. Its Add Border and Add Padding settings used to be on/off switches and are now numbers, and the old on/off value no longer validates. To fix it:
- Switch to the Checkout page in the editor and select the Checkout Line Items block.
- Re-enter Add Border as a number:
0none,1base (default),2dashed,3dotted. - Re-enter Add Padding as a number:
0none,1extra tight,2tight (default),3base,4loose,5extra loose. - Save again.
If saving still fails, check the other app blocks you have placed, whether from Umbrella or another app, for empty required fields or values outside their allowed range. If you still can’t find it, contact support and tell us which pages you were editing.
“There’s a problem loading this page”
The Policies Page link exists but the page itself has not been added to the store. Go back to Step 2 and select Add page, then Save.
The Policies Page isn’t listed under Apps
Check that Umbrella is installed and up to date in Settings → Apps, and that your store uses new customer accounts (Settings → Customer accounts). The Policies Page is not available on legacy customer accounts.
