Registration Requirements

Configure product registration, serial number validation, and third-party registration settings.

Registration Requirements

Registration requirements control whether customers must register their product before filing a warranty claim. Configure serial number validation, enforce uniqueness, and support third-party retailer registrations.

Dashboard → Warranties → Create/Edit → Registration Requirements
Note: Registration requirements are hidden for Shipping Protection plans, since shipping protection is tied to orders rather than individual products.

Settings

The registration requirements card appears in the right column of the warranty form with six settings:

Require Product Registration

Default: Off. When enabled, customers must register their product before filing a warranty claim. Use this to verify ownership and collect customer information.

Require Serial Number

Default: Off. When enabled, customers must enter a serial number during registration. Useful for electronics, appliances, and high-value products that need individual tracking.

Validate Serial Number Existence

Default: Off. When enabled, the serial number must match a record in your pre-loaded database. Prevents made-up or incorrect serial numbers.

Warning: Upload your serial numbers before enabling this setting. Without a serial number database, all registrations will be rejected. See Serial Numbers.

Enforce Serial Number Uniqueness

Default: Off. When enabled, each serial number can only be registered once. Prevents multiple warranty claims on the same unit.

Allow Third Party Registrations

Default: Off. When enabled, customers who purchased from an approved third-party retailer can register for warranty coverage.

To configure approved retailers, type a retailer name and press Enter in the tag input field. Autocomplete suggestions include Amazon, Best Buy, Walmart, Target, and Costco. You can also add custom names.

Product Registration Form URL

Default: Empty (uses Umbrella’s built-in form). Enter a custom URL if you have your own registration form. Accepts a full URL (https://example.com/register) or a relative Shopify path (/pages/product-registration).

  • Full serial validation — Enable all toggles. Every registration requires a valid, unique serial number. Add approved retailers if you sell through multiple channels.
  • No registration — Leave all toggles off. Customers file claims without registering. This is the default.
