Shopify Post-Purchase Extensions

Umbrella includes two post-purchase extensions that let customers add warranty protection after their initial purchase.

Checkout Post-Purchase

Displays a warranty offer between the checkout and the thank-you page, immediately after payment.

How it works

1. Customer completes checkout and payment is processed
2. Umbrella checks if any purchased products are eligible for warranty protection
3. If eligible, a post-purchase page displays available warranty options
4. The customer can accept (warranty is added to the existing order) or decline (skip to thank-you page)

Key characteristics:

• No additional payment step — the warranty cost is added to the existing order
• Brief time window before the page times out
• Non-blocking — if the extension fails to load, the customer proceeds normally

Order Post-Purchase

Displays warranty upsell options on the customer account order status page for products that were not covered at checkout.

How it works

1. Customer visits their order status page
2. Unprotected products show an “Add Protection” option
3. Clicking the button opens a new checkout with the warranty pre-added

Key characteristics:

• Available as long as the order is accessible in the customer account
• Creates a new checkout (separate transaction from the original order)

Configuration

In Shopify

1. Go to Shopify Admin → Settings → Checkout and click Customize
2. For checkout post-purchase: navigate to the Post-purchase page
3. For order post-purchase: navigate to the Order status page
4. Add or configure the Umbrella extension

In Umbrella

Display settings for post-purchase widgets (compact/expanded mode, button text, images, modals) are also influenced by your Widget Configuration in the Umbrella dashboard.
