Merchants can offer paid coverage to customers. Unclaimed warranties become pure profit.
Is Umbrella an insurance company?
No. Umbrella is not an insurance company. We provide a technology platform that enables merchants to offer and manage their own warranty and protection programs. All warranties are merchant-backed and not sold as regulated insurance products.
What platforms does Umbrella support?
Umbrella currently supports merchants selling on Shopify and Shopify plus. More platform integrations are coming soon. Reach out if you would like a specific integration.
Can I white label Umbrella with my brand?
Yes. You can fully white-label the warranty widget, claim portal, and all customer communications with your brand. You can also customize the colors, text, and styling of widgets to match your brand for a seamless customer experience.
Can I price my warranties as a percent of my product price?
Yes. You can set warranty prices as a percentage of the variant price in your store. Umbrella will automatically calculate the warranty price dynamically - no need for manual updates!
Can I price warranties in tiers based on the product price?
Yes. You can assign warranty prices based on the product prices using tiers. Ex. warranties for products between $1-300 are $50, warranties for products between $300-$500 are $75, and so on. This is a common way to set up furniture and fitness equipment warranties.
If I'm a 3rd party provider, can I use Umbrella to service my clients?
Yes. 3rd party warranty providers can use Umbrella to easily offer your services on retailer client websites. Retailers can choose to use 3rd party coverage or guarantee their own coverage.

If you're using a heavily customized or older theme, minor adjustments may be needed. If you need assistance, reach out and our team can handle the install for you in less than 15 minutes.
How are OEM and Extended warranties different?
OEM warranties are automatically registered when a customer purchases a product. These warranties are included automatically at no extra cost to the customer and typically cover manufacturer defects or basic product guarantees for a short period.

Extended warranties are optional protection plans that customers can purchase. You control the duration, pricing, and eligibility rules, and you keep 100% of the revenue from each sale.

Both OEM and extended warranties are managed through the same customer-facing claims portal, giving customers a consistent and seamless experience when viewing coverage or submitting a claim.
Can I charge a deductible or repair fee?
Yes, you can resolve claims with your choice of method. Full replacement, store credit, or repair are all great options depending on the type of product you sell and your gross margins.
Do I handle my own claims?
Yes, Umbrella gives you full control over how hands-on you want to be. Customers submit claims directly through your website using a branded portal. You can choose to review and resolve each claim manually; offering a repair, replacement, or store credit - or you can configure rules to automatically approve certain claims. You also decide whether to charge a deductible, shipping fee, or other costs as part of the resolution. Everything is fully customizable to fit your preferred level of involvement and customer service standards.
Can I offer multiple warranty options on one product?
Yes. You can offer time based options (ex 1 year or 2 year coverage) as well as multiple tiered options (ex. Basic vs Premium coverage).
Does Umbrella notify my customers?
Yes. Umbrella notifies your customers with order confirmations, claim updates, and other events. You can fully customize these notifications and even use a custom sender domain  for a white label experience.
Can I choose where to place widgets on my site?
Yes. Umbrella offers widgets for the product page, cart, and checkout, as well as popup modals for product and cart pages.

What is Umbrella and how does it work with Shopify?
Umbrella is a warranty management platform built specifically for Shopify stores. It lets merchants offer, sell, and manage extended warranties, protection plans, and OEM warranties directly within their storefront. Once installed, Umbrella automatically integrates with your product pages, cart, and checkout, allowing customers to add protection plans in one click. All warranty data, claims, and customer communications stay inside your Shopify admin.
Can I sell extended warranties directly to customers using Umbrella?
Yes. Umbrella allows you to create and sell extended warranty plans under your own brand, keeping 100% of the profit. Unlike third-party providers, Umbrella lets merchants set their own pricing, coverage terms, and claim rules. You can offer multi-year protection plans as a product upsell on the product page, in the cart, or after checkout; all tracked and managed inside your store.
What’s the difference between Umbrella and other warranty providers like Extend or Mulberry?
Umbrella is a self-managed warranty platform, not a reseller. Competing providers like Extend, Mulberry, or Clyde act as intermediaries that force you to sell warranties under their brand name, take a share of the revenue, and force your customers to submit claims through them. Umbrella lets you own the customer relationship, pricing, and brand experience. There are no third-party portals or customer redirects - everything happens within your Shopify store.
Does Umbrella handle warranty claims automatically?
Yes. Umbrella includes a native, embedded claim form that verifies warranty eligibility, processes claims, and can trigger resolution workflows automatically. Merchants can define repair, replacement, or refund outcomes, while customers can track their claim status directly through your storefront. The entire process is branded, transparent, and requires no external login or separate dashboard.
Can Umbrella manage OEM or manufacturer warranties?
Absolutely. Umbrella supports automatic and manual OEM warranty registration by linking order data, serial numbers, and product details. This enables manufacturers and brands to track warranty eligibility for every unit sold - whether the purchase was direct or through a third-party retailer. OEM registrations can also be used to bring customers back to your own site for warranty activation and remarketing.
How do I set up Umbrella in my Shopify store?
Setup takes only a few minutes. Install Umbrella from the Shopify App Store, connect your store, and choose whether to sell extended or OEM warranties. Then, create your protection plans, set pricing, and customize the widget design. Once enabled, Umbrella automatically adds the warranty selector to your product and cart pages. No custom coding is required.
How much does Umbrella cost and what plans are available?
Umbrella offers flexible pricing based on your store’s sales volume and feature needs. Plans include a free tier for testing, plus advanced tiers for automated claims, OEM registration, AI fraud detection, and compliance coverage. Pricing scales with your attach rate, ensuring merchants of any size can start offering warranties profitably.
